Guest posting is done best when you stay humble yet aren’t afraid to show off to bigger audiences.

Yet I see many Bloggers making the same mistakes!

When these Bloggers think of guest Blogging, they immediately think of wildly successful writers who will be able to provide them with all this free traffic, traffic which has taken a successful blogger years and years to build.

That doesn’t sound too fair, does it? Plus, it looks selfish!

The soaring skyscraper Burj Khalifa built in Dubai reaches a staggering 828 m! It was able to reach this high because its inventors and workers all worked together, piece by piece until now we class it as Megatall!

So in order for us to become Megatall as Bloggers, we must structure our own inventions in the same way.

Why Guest post?

Quite simply, guest posting is writing an article for another website. This post you share should be completely authentic and not published before. Otherwise, you risk looking like you are giving second-hand material to established Bloggers.

Guest posting can be a great way of growing your blog and someone else’s! It’s always best to share completely free and kind advice through your guest post for the good of other people.

It’s great as not only will you be seen on your website, you can also be found on other people’s too so that this little link brings them to your Blog site too.

I believe if you are activity-aware that when you guest post it will take time and work and it is not a quick fix then you absolutely have the right mentality.

To be totally truthful, far too many Bloggers are plain lazy.

By respecting that the audience from higher viewed Blogs took time, money and effort rather than trying to mooch off of them without much in return is how you are going to grow and gain admiration long term.

Knowing who you are posting for

Okay, this one really does grind me up. As a blogger myself, there have been countless times where (usually just after I have posted about scaling my own audience) my email fills up with Guest Blogging requests.  Now, this would be fine if they had a clue who I am or what I write about. But all too frustratingly, they wish to give me a post about topics which are not even close to children and parenting. What use would this be to me? 

I respect Bloggers so much more when they write about the same topics as me and have taken some time to understand my work.

For example, if a Blogger writes about food and recipes then for guest posting they would be looking for posts like “10 Quick and Easy Family Meals”.  The Guest Blogger should look into the Bloggers site beforehand to learn their niche, style and even if they accept Guest posts. Some Bloggers don’t consider it anymore because they are tired of their emails filling up with poor spammy emails with content which their readers wouldn’t be into.

Don’t just chase bigger Bloggers 

Keep a good mix of Bloggers and stay humble. Especially at the start, there is no reason why you shouldn’t be writing for people in your own audience or people who have roughly the same views. I would totally recommend this because you’ll want to get your technique professional and confident to email the Big Bloggers.

Google search string examples

You can find websites who want guest posts by typing keywords into Google.

Google has a handy dandy way of making your search party even easier and there are two ways in which you can do it!

# 1- Google reverse image search

First, find someone that writes a lot of guest posts and grab the URL they use in their author bio and then paste into Google. TADA! You’ll see everywhere they have posted.

# 2- Keywords

By typing keywords into Google you’ll be able to find websites which are actually accepting guest posts. For example…

• “Become a Guest Blogger”
• “Write for us”
• “This is a Guest post by”
• “Want to write for”
• “Contribute to our site”
• “Submit your content”
• “Guest posts wanted”
• “Writers wanted”
• “Articles wanted”

It’s not about you

Most wannabe Guest Bloggers don’t get accepted because they come across as if they are only in the game for themselves. Sending cheap and poorly written articles will be seen right through by top writers. Bloggers are of course very busy people so we cannot expect them to do the extra work.

Consider your article has to be worth the Bloggers time and they have to get great things out of it.

I can name plenty of times where my social media mail has popped up with the Lazy Blogger.

“Hi, let’s exchange views and guest post. I need 2 ad views and 10 page views”.

*Rolls eyes*

Sure, heck, I don’t know you and will get nothing out of it but that sweet and thoughtful message had me at hi.

Pitching a guest post

Always look professional. Sending a message on social media or likewise won’t even be acknowledged by a lot of established Bloggers. I’m sure they get spammy messages all the time or have turned off the notification because it’s a waste of their time.

Email Email Email. 

Personally, when someone has taken the time to read my blog, not just “view” it, and sends me an email it’s so much more lovely to receive and I am much more likely to respond.

A script that is not too long and not too short works best. Too long is just a pain in the bum to read and too short and you’ll risk sounding unprofessional. Feel free to use this example-

“Hi, [Name].

My name is [Name]and I am the founder of (Blog website). 

I’m a long time reader. You may have noticed my comment on your post on [Article] Awesome post by the way!

I am writing to you because I would love to contribute a post on [Website].

I think your readers would get a tone of value from it and I will make sure it is packed with valued information that you cannot find anywhere else.

I have been brainstorming idea’s which I would love to share with you:

Paying for publishing Guest posts

Under all circumstances paying for a link is against Googles policies. Be prepared for heaps of juicy and creatives names for it too. Some call it sponsored posts, native advertising or even editorial fee. Whatever fluffy name they use I would stay away from this.

People who are un-educated that this is against Google’s policies probably aren’t worthwhile posting for in the first place.

Warm up your targets before you share a Guest post

Sometimes you might get away with it, but often coming to a Bigger Blogger out of the blue without any communication beforehand and asking for a favour is a little bit blah.

Once you have found a Blogger which you would like to post for, it’s time to get their juices flowing.

For example, imagine if you wanted to ask someone out, you put a little work in don’t you? You compliment here and there, show you are interested and of course the obligatory “Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your long golden locks”! 

Don’t jump into stalker mode here, yet be that friendly commenter who always says such awesome things. Be the nice human being in the background for a little before jumping in.

That’s it, time to flirt with the internet, your going on a steamy date.

What sites you should be posting on

Recently I read a post where people were being told to write about niches that are not in the same one as yours. WRONG! Hey, if you are just doing it for fun or as a pastime, go for it. But professionally, it doesn’t make sense to write about a topic you are unfamiliar with, or won’t include what you talk about in your blog.

Always stick to what you know.

To accurately provide people with value and entice them to visit more amazing posts means really knowing the subject inside and out. If you share weak or false information, this will only be a huge turn off for readers.

Post in websites which are in your niche.

Not only will you want to sound like you know what you are talking about, but you will also want to grow friendships and relationships in the same circle so that you can all build each other up. For example, I would not want to comment on a travel blog (although they are pretty damn cool) because it’s not related to what I do. Sure, if I find something really cool I will compliment them. Yet professionally, I want to stick to parenting/ kiddy websites because I can learn from them and they can learn from me.

Write for websites which talk you up and make your link clear

Always make this clear before you allow people to share your pieces on their blog. Your intro and theirs should be right at the top and your link proud for the world to see. Any Blogger who allows someone else to write for them but doesn’t make the writer sounds pretty cool is probably more so out for themselves.

Websites which post well written high-quality content. 

Always run in the same circles. If your content is king, then the Blogger who is posting your piece should have fab content too!

Have you ever struggled with traffic? I know for many of you traffic is a consistent struggle and an up and down game of views. Chances are, you might not be doing all the right things for more genuine readers!

One trend I see on social media is the whole view for view nonsense. Have you ever seen this? You might have even been tempted to join in and I would honestly say that there are far more productive and valued ways to grow your views, rather than the easy dump and run! You’ll find that yes, views will go up but only for that one day. These people will not care about your content or want to come back for more. Blogging all about the long term.
